Specialized health care

Vasa sjukvårdsdistrikt samkommun/Vaasan sairaanhoitopiirin kuntayhtymä offers individual and collective health promoting services for its inhabitants using the methods of specialized health care as part of the service system in health and medical care. For Närpes the following medical institutes are available: Vaasa Central Hospital and Bottenhavets sjukhus (which is an integrated part of Vaasa Central Hospital since 2005). Moreover university hospitals and other specialized medical institutes are consulted.

The changes of the service structure in the health care district continue according to national guidelines and the preferences of the member municipalities. Nationally the emphasis is on preventive work at all levels and on strengthening the resources of the health centres. Cooperation between the district’s health centres continues in order to improve the efficiency of  the care chains. The municipal and service structure reform implicates the design of overall plans concerning the structures of social and health services in the municipalities and the rise of new regional structures.

Changes

The municipal and service structure reform implicates comprehensive work with the structures of the health care district. The reform mainly affects social and primary health care. The task of reorganising the activities within the new areas of cooperation is in progress.

On-call and emergency care will be developed according to national guidelines. The design of activities in joint-call facilities in an annex are in progress. Cooperation with Central and Southern Ostrobothnia health care districts will continue.

The productivity growth in specialized health care is continuously being scrutinized. Actions taken according to the strategy program have raised productivity in Vaasa Central Hospital to country average.

The activities and the cooperation with primary care is developed in psychiatry in consultation with the municipalities and health centres.

The productivity within the operating specialties is good, but the demand for services has increased since the introduction of  the health care guarantee and some specialties consult  outside hospitals in order to cope with the demands of the guarantee.
